IT ALL STARTED WHEN...

Like many kids growing up in the '90s, I was captivated by the world of Pokémon, Digimon, and Sailor Moon. These stories didn’t just entertain me—they sparked a lifelong love for visual storytelling. I started drawing wherever I could—on scraps of paper, notebooks, and anything I could get my hands on.
My first real digital art experience came thanks to my inspirational Uncle Dru, who let me experiment with Microsoft Paint on his computer. Years later, he generously supported me again—this time with his financial support, I bought a laptop and a different Wacom tablet. At first, I struggled with digital tools and set them aside. But everything changed when I discovered the online art community of DeviantART and upgraded to a screen tablet. Finally, I could draw digitally the way I had always imagined—and I haven’t stopped since. During my years of drawing and exploration, I fell in love with anime which had inspired me to draw in the anime style for my first commissions.
Today, I work with tools like the iPad mini and Huion tablets, creating art that blends my love for Japanese anime aesthetics with my passion for education. Whether I’m illustrating kidlit stories, designing surface patterns, or leading workshops, my mission is to support students in discovering their creative voice through digital art. I actively collaborate with schools, galleries, and companies to integrate digital illustration into classrooms and learning environments—empowering the next generation of artists and storytellers.
2025: The Now
Right now, I’m focused on expanding my portfolio, connecting with like-minded individuals, and inspiring young artists to share their creativity and messages with the world. Each step I take brings me closer to living out my ikigai, where passion and purpose intertwine.
Looking ahead to the 2025-2026 school year (August 2025-July 2026), I’m excited to run the Digital Art Exhibition for students at my school for the third consecutive year. Each year has been a bigger success than the last! This past spring, the exhibition transformed into a charity event centered around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, raising an impressive 9,000 RMB in just a few hours for the HeFeng Art Foundation, which provides art opportunities to rural areas in China.
I’m also in the process of writing my first book, Xie Xie, Ayi, while continuing to offer students meaningful service-learning opportunities through their art. Recently, I’ve been invited to lead and pilot a digital art program starting in the first grade at my school, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about this opportunity! Additionally, I will keep integrating STEAM education into my language instruction to enhance the learning experience.
July 2025 marks the relaunch of my website and a renewed focus on my social media presence. I’m looking forward to what the rest of the year holds and will cherish every moment spent with my family along the way. Be sure to subscribe and stay tuned for updates!
FAQ
What tools and software do you use?
I usually use an iPad Pro with a Generation 2 Apple Pencil. I use apps such as Procreate, Clip Studio Paint (CSP), and the Affinity suite.
On my laptop, I use CSP or Adobe software along with either a Wacom or a Huion tablet.
Which artists are you inspired by?
I am inspired by so many artists. I have many books and collections of Pinterest pins of the artists I come across. Right now, Beatrice Blue, Loish, and Yuumei come to mind. I am more so inspired by looking at art pieces and environments I am in rather than specific artists.
Are you available for commissions or freelancing work?
You can use the Contact page or email hello@jadechoung.com to share your request.
How do you manage all your projects?
I am highly interested in the field of technology and all the resources out there to help various industries. I use them to my advantage, and I use AI such as Siri and other sources to schedule tasks, alarms, and more for time management.
Are you open for school visits or consultations?
Thank you for your interest. At this point, due to my schedule and other demands, I am not; instead, there are times I offer my insights at professional development opportunities or networking sites for educators or illustrators. If you have an interest in this and would like to be on a wait list for further information, please email about your interest at hello@jadechoung.com.
How do you determine which organizations and projects to collaborate on?
It depends on my current workload, which artists and student art work is available for display, what the organizers can offer themselves to support a project (such as an exhibition), the current active network pool to support a specific project (based on the project's objectives and more) and venue capacity if relevant.
Do you have more artwork to view?
Yes, I have much more artwork for viewing than what is available on my website. You can see other artwork on my other social media and there are my past commissions and work on my DeviantART page which I am not currently active on.
